We believe that being a sustainable business is not just a choice but a responsibility— to create a better tomorrow for our community, our customers, our employees, our suppliers, and our planet.
With this vision in mind, we are excited to introduce our sustainability strategy to you, which is centered around three key areas: People, Planet, and Product.
1. PEOPLE
We firmly believe that our actions should positively impact people at every level of the supply chain. To ensure the safe, ethical, and environmentally conscious production of our products, we’re currently developing an Ethical Sourcing Policy.
This policy will ensure that every step of our supply chain aligns with our commitment to fair labour practices, human rights, and responsible ingredient sourcing. By working closely with our extended Kez's Kitchen community, including retailers, suppliers and you – our customers - we can share this goal and collectively contribute to a sustainable future.
We’re also committed to creating meaningful careers in the food processing industry. Through engagement surveys, staff success plans and our key company values of care, honesty, improvement and accountability – we’re striving to make Kez’s Kitchen an even more open, honest, supportive and growth-minded organisation.
2. PLANET
We believe in protecting and preserving our planet for future generations. In line with this commitment, we have set ambitious goals to reduce our environmental impact.
We are dedicated to achieving zero waste to landfill from our bakery by 2030. We’re also actively exploring efficient waste management practices and innovative solutions to minimise our waste and divert it from landfills. Recently, we took a significant step by removing 4,000 plastic pails from landfill through the adoption of ‘pallecons’, larger bulk containers for liquid storage. We’ve also transitioned to using 100% recycled content toilet paper, biodegradable gloves, and earth friendly dishwashing liquid at our Noble Park site.
We’ll be keeping you updated as we formally measure our greenhouse gases and carbon emissions and set appropriate targets that will ensure we meet our goals.
3. PRODUCT
Our commitment to sustainability extends to the very core of our products. We understand that consumers today are increasingly conscious of the environmental impact of their purchases, especially concerning the use of non-recyclable plastics.
We are dedicated to offering delicious products that still align with our customers' values, and this means working towards using 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging. Our goal is to close the loop in the circular economy by promoting and supporting the packaging value chain and diverting Kez’s Kitchen packaging from landfill.
In the meantime, we want to ensure we’re actively communicating our plans and ambitions to you, and making sure that the recycling labels we use, and instructions on how best to dispose of our packaging is prominently displayed, and easy to understand.
