1991

How we started

We’re a proud family business that started in 1991 in Kez’s kitchen. Kez was baking chocolate chip cookies and word got around – they were delicious! Together with her mother Helen, Kez had a vision to build something special. In 1994 her brother Michael joined them, and they put their hearts and souls into developing delicious recipes. We have been baking to suit all our family members for a very long time, so we know what it means to be included and we’re passionate about making sure that everyone can be.

OUR KITCHEN

Although we quickly outgrew the family kitchen, to this day our recipes are still developed with a mother’s love by Helen in her own kitchen. Our team in the bakery work side by side just as we did at home, taking the time to do as much as possible by hand while, incredibly, making many millions of products every year!

Why we love what we do

Wanting to support both our customers and our suppliers inspires us to source the best ingredients we can. Our butter is from Warrnambool, we only use farm fresh eggs, a fifth generation family business supplies us with Australian honey, and we use 100% pure apple juice from fruit grown right here in Victoria.

Our recipe for memorable moments

No matter how big our team in the bakery gets, we hold onto what we loved about starting small – being together in mum’s kitchen, scouring family recipe cards, filling the house with incredible smells. All our recipes still begin at home and are taste-tested by family and friends.

Once our recipes are perfected and approved for deliciousness, we get to work in the bakery to be able to share them with you! Our bakers take great pride in their work, knowing that people around the country, and even the world, are enjoying a special treat made for them with love.

Are all of the Kez's Kitchen products made in Australia?

Yes. We proudly make and package all our products right here in Melbourne, Australia.

Do you use Australian ingredients?

To make our delicious products, we source the best quality, most wholesome ingredients that we can. It’s always our preference to use Australian ingredients, as local as possible, but sometimes we do need to go further afield to find what we need.

What are allergens?

An allergen is something known to cause an allergic reaction in some people. When food allergens are eaten (or in severe cases, even just touched), the body’s immune system thinks that the substance is harmful and goes into defence mode to try to eliminate it. Symptoms can range from mild itching and wheezing to acute anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening. Some of the most common food allergies are to cow’s milk, eggs, peanuts and tree nuts, fish and shellfish, soy and wheat. We clearly state potential allergens on our packaging, on the back under the list of ingredients.

What is a gluten free diet?

People who have coeliac disease and gluten intolerances must follow a strict gluten free diet. Gluten is found in wheat, rye and barley.

Are GMOs present in Kez's Kitchen products?

We are proud to say that all of our products are free of genetically modified ingredients.

What does “may contain” nuts, soy etc. actually mean?

We share the same equipment to make a number of different products. To minimise the risk of cross-contamination, we are committed to thorough cleaning and washing-down of all equipment each time we make something different. But because different people’s allergy sensitivities vary, it’s important that they have all the facts when deciding whether they can eat something or not.

Why do you have Halal and Kosher accreditation?

At Kez’s, our passion to create is driven by sharing with everyone and the belief that nobody should miss out on good food. We are committed to inclusiveness and respecting everyone’s differences. For many years we’ve made sure that the majority of our products are certified Halal and Kosher.

We supply products to a broad range of customers, including on board domestic and international airlines, and export markets that require both Kosher and Halal certification. So, it’s a necessary part of meeting our overall labelling and certification requirements, and it helps us sell more proudly Australian-made and owned products around the world.

What is a Health Star Rating?

The Health Star Rating is an Australian Government initiative. It is a front-of-pack labelling system that rates the overall nutritional profile of packaged food and assigns it a rating from ½ a star to 5 stars. It provides a quick, easy, standard way to compare similar packaged foods. The more stars, the healthier the choice.

What is the purpose of the following additives in some of your products?

We don’t add any additives to our products, however, some are present in some of ingredients we use.

492 (sorbitan tristearate) and 471 (mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids) are emulsifiers that help blend oil and water and ensure that they don’t separate.

202 (potassium sorbate) is an anti-microbial preservative that helps keep food fresh.

220 (sulphur dioxide) is a preservative and antioxidant that helps keep food fresh and maintain its colour.

322 (lecithin) is an antioxidant, preventing food from spoiling, and an emulsifier, helping blend oil and water and ensures that they don’t separate.

330 (citric acid) regulates acidity and helps increase the effectiveness of antioxidants, helping keep food fresh.

476 (polyglycerol polyricinoleate) is an emulsifier and stabiliser that helps blend oil and water and ensures that they don’t separate.

450 (potassium and sodium diphosphates) and 500 (sodium bicarbonate) are mineral salts that act as raising agents.

How do I store your products after opening?

We suggest that you store our products away from direct sunlight. Once the packet is opened, keep what’s left in a dry, airtight container. If the product you have is individually wrapped there’s no need to store it in an airtight container.
